Queens Asset Distribution Attorney

All property obtained during the marriage is considered marital property, with few exceptions such as inherited, gifts and property purchased during the marriage with funds from before the marriage. This property must be divided in an equitable manner according to New York divorce laws. Some separate property, such as a home that was brought into the marriage by one party, can be converted into marital property by actions such as a party contributing to the payments or upkeep.

High Net Worth Asset Division

Issues of property and assets are particularly complex in high net worth divorces, which are often centered on business assets. Businesses developed throughout the marriage are considered to be marital assets, but that does not mean each party will receive 50 percent of the business. Distribution of business assets will be based on factors such as what each party accomplished towards enhancing the value of the business. Our lawyers have the knowledge and skill to resolve issues such as business valuation effectively in a way that preserves the best interests of our clients.
